Christmas in an RV

People have asked…how did you decorate for Christmas in an RV? Interesting question. I did anticipate Christmas and packed a tub of small items last year when putting the decorations away at the end of the season. Too bad THAT tub is still in NH and the miscellaneous tub of decorations came with us!

We had many first world questions to contemplate…tree or no tree? Stockings? A wreath? Outside lights? With a total of 350 ft of living space, there definitely needs to be compromise. It didn’t take long in deciding that a tree, real or artificial, large or small was not needed. One decision down, on to the next. Stockings also fell in the not needed category and quickly were taken off the list. But a wreath, the welcoming essence of the season, was determined to be necessary. However, when your RV is driven into your lot, hanging it on the door would be futile. So any good RVer knows it goes on your ladder on the back! Go figure. And the lights…well, if you know Bob he is the original Clark Griswold so the few lights we had were strung up outside! The remainder of the decorations inside are minimal, but created a cozy Christmas home for us.

What we learned so clearly is that Christmas is not in the volume of decorations (goodbye 10 tubs in storage). Christmas is in your heart, your memories and the true reason we celebrate the day…the birth of Jesus! As we await the birth of a precious grandchild here in Alabama, we pray you all had a very Merry Christmas. May you each find Christmas in your heart all year long!

One month in….

We have been in Foley, AL at Bella Terra RV Resort now for a little over 2.5 weeks and LIFE IS GOOD! There is a definite difference between the word Resort and Campground and we hit the jackpot here. As we pulled in we said, “We’re not in NH anymore!”

We left NH on October 29th, and worked our way down to Alabama. We overnighted at a variety of different venues. There were the proverbial “free” Walmart parking lots, a Cabela’s parking lot and a casino lot as well as campgrounds and state parks. I’ll be doing a post later on the different types and all that they had to offer…and they all offered something!

As is common with New Englanders, the most often asked question was “How’s the weather?”; that is until the BIG snowstorm dumped almost 2 feet of snow and now no one is asking about our weather! But I will say, there are warm days and there are cool days. Of course, we really like the warm days! Our journey from NH had us encountering some pretty chilly days and nights, but nothing a small space heater and an extra blanket couldn’t take care of.

We are acclimating to the life of retirees as well as that of full-time RVers for now. More on that to come and how we have made ourselves a pretty cozy little home! In the meantime, we will continue forward with our adventure and keep you looped in as we go.

It really is ONE AMAZING LIFE…
